8th World Wilderness Congress

Global Wilderness Seminar for Government Agencies, a pre-8th World Wilderness Congress session, took place September 28 and 29, 2005, in Anchorage, Alaska.

About the Government Seminar

Many people work to preserve wildlands across the globe. NGOs keep a vigilant eye on compliance with governmental regulations and environmentally-aware corporations operate in ways that benefit both people and business. But government agencies are usually responsible for establishing and managing the wildlands of their respective countries and play a unique role in wildland protection. The Government Seminar brought together many of these governmental wilderness stewards to share some of their wildland challenges and solutions that might be applied more broadly to similar challenges in other countries. They forged bonds with sister agencies that will help them to continue to share information and learn from each other in both formal and informal ways. By preceding the WWC, the Seminar primed them to see how information presented throughout the rest of the WWC applied to their own problems, and to common international issues. This can only work to the benefit of wilderness preservation, as we more fully comprehend every year how, indeed, everything is tied to everything else.
