A discarded backpack litters the desert floor. In this area you begin to see more and more trash left behind by walkers. Backpacks like this are common place. It has been estimated that each migrant can leave behind six to eight pounds of trash in the desert. Given that there are literally thousands of migrants moving through this area every year, you can see how much trash gets left behind.
