Andrea Gehrke, Director

Andrea Gehrke joined the Carhart Center in 2017. During her Forest Service career, she has worked in various roles in Recreation & Information Management and Administration including studies in Natural Horsemanship and Equine Assisted Corporate Learning, which incorporate emotional intelligence training, adult learning techniques and problem solving. Prior to coming to the Carhart Center, Andrea served as the Deputy Director of Recreation, Heritage and Volunteer Resources in Washington D.C. Andrea holds a B.S. James Sippel, Bureau of Land Management Representative

James Sippel James came to the Carhart Center in 2015 after serving as the New Mexico National Conservation Lands Program Lead. His 20 year wilderness career has included Wilderness Ranger work; various natural resource management positions in California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, and Washington; and national-level wilderness policy development. He holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from Prescott College, Arizona, and a Master of Arts - Interdisciplinary Studies in Forest Resources, Rangeland Resources, and Environmental Policy from Oregon State University. Aaron Collins, Acting Fish and Wildlife Representative

Aaron Collins Stationed at the Hart Mountain and Sheldon National Wildlife Refuges in southcentral Oregon and northwest Nevada, Aaron is currently on temporary detail to the Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center until August 2017. Aaron has worked in the Northwest and Alaska primarily with the Fish and Wildlife Service over the past 17 years which has included work with several wilderness areas. Ken Straley, Forest Service Representative

Ken Straley Ken came to the Carhart Center in 2011. Throughout his 22-year career, Ken has been involved in the management of 11 wilderness areas on five National Forests and a Bureau of Land Management Field Office in Utah, Arizona, and Colorado and has served several details to the Forest Service Washington Office. Ken serves on the Chief's Wilderness Advisory Group and Wilderness Information Steering Committee, among a host of other working groups. Tim Devine, National Park Service Representative

Tim Devine Tim came to the Carhart Center in 2004 from Rocky Mountain National Park where he was the Wilderness Program Specialist for 13 years. He has over 25 years of experience working in a variety of wilderness parks including Shenandoah, Everglades, Big Cypress, Buffalo River, Mount Rainier, and Olympic. He holds an A.A.S. degree in Recreation and Wildlife from Hocking Technical College and a B.S. degree in Wildlife Management from the Ohio State University. Sue McDonald, Wilderness Interpretation & Outreach Specialist

Sue McDonald Sue joined the Carhart Center in 2017 from the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center. Her educational career with the Fish and Wildlife Service spans 20 years in which she has worked in visitor services at a variety of National Wildlife Refuges. Sue has a bachelor's degree in Recreation Resource Management from the University of Minnesota, has worked as a park ranger for both the Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Park Service, and has worked as a member of national planning teams promoting visitor services, partnerships, and interpretation programs. Elaine Poser, Budget Administrator

Prior to joining the Carhart staff in 2001, Elaine worked as a Budget Analyst for the Rocky Mountain Research Station, in Fort Collins, CO; as Budget Program Assistant for Forest Service Region 1 Watershed, Wildlife, Fisheries and Rare Plants Staff, in Missoula, MT and in Personnel for Forest Service Region 1 Lewis and Clark National Forest, in Great Falls, MT. She holds a B.A. degree in Elementary Education from the University of Montana, has done graduate work in counseling and career guidance, and received training and certification in mediation.
