South Maricopa Mountains Wilderness
Location
The South Maricopa Mountains Wilderness is located in south-central Arizona approximately 15 miles east of Gila Bend, and a two and one-half hour drive from Phoenix. Even as the wilderness is sandwiched between Interstate 8 on the south and State Route 238 on the north, access to the wilderness is limited. High-clearance and four-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended as there are no improved roads that provide access to the wilderness.
