40th Anniversary Event Details
Educational Weekend Offered in White MountainsWhat: Tucson—The Arizona Wilderness Coalition is offering a four-day weekend workshop in the Blue Range Primitive Area in the White Mountains just south of Alpine, Arizona from August 19-22. This area is one of the most remote places in Arizona—inspiring wilderness visionary Aldo Leopold’s writings and “land ethic” philosophy—and is home to the recently reintroduced Mexican gray wolf.Participants will hike in nearby wilderness areas and discuss the topics of fire ecology in wilderness and Aldo Leopold’s notion of “thinking like a mountain.” The hikes are moderately strenuous and the wild flowers should be at their peak. A local wolf recovery biologist will give the group a progress report of the recovery project. The price is $379, a cost that includes van transportation for those coming from Tucson, all meals and camping accommodations, and guided hikes.
When: August 19-22, 2004
