40th Anniversary Event Details
Sitka Ranger District Campfire Program
What: Sitka Ranger District will host a campfire program to commemorate the 40thanniversary of the Wilderness Act. The program will be held September 3,2004 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at the Starrigavan Campground amphitheater.There will be an overview of how Wilderness is designated, how the Tongass National Forest manages Wilderness including the exceptions allowed byAlaska National Interest Conservation Act (ANILCA), the history of theSouth Baranof and West Chichagof Wildernesses and the issues that we aredealing with today. Some speakers will be asked to describe personalexperiences in Wilderness areas. Please join us for cake, stories,souvenirs and roasted marshmallows.When: September 3, 2004, 7-8:30pm
