40th Anniversary Event Details

Mountain Discovery Day

What: Mountain Discovery Day will feature hands-on activities, demonstrations, music and exhibits. Booths and activities will be offered by over twenty government, public and private organizations and agencies involved in caring for and protecting our public lands and natural resources. The event is free of charge. Parking is free at the Ski Area. Bring your family to meet a llama, learn about search and rescue operations, hook up with a hiking group, or get close to a hawk. Conservationist Aldo Leopold will be featured in a living history presentation given by Richard Bodner. Visit with organizations such as the Rio Grande Zoo’s Zoo-To-You, Talking Talons, New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, Sandia Mountain Bear Watch, New Mexico Friends of the Forest, Friends of Tijeras Pueblo and many others. The Sandia Peak Ski Area chairlifts and their Double Eagle Grill will be open for business. Mountain bike rentals will be available. The Ski Area will also offer free horseshoes and volleyball.
